3 left handed fancy face woods from around the late 1920's. Two interesting points -- they are left handed and
likely there is only a small number in existence, and second, they have excellent markings. Note that Albert
Goodwill Spalding and George Wright were both baseball players on the Boston Baseball Championship team
from 1871-75 and both were inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame. Spalding and Wright and Ditson were closely
tied from 1894 thru the early 1940's, when Wright became part of Spalding. Description: (1) AG Spalding ''D'
wood - Duncan Model, 2 patent dates, 1919 and 1926, black/red maltese cross ivorine insert, head very good,
red ferrule very good with extended black ferrule another 7" above red ferrule; black painted steel shaft very
nice with only paint wear; good 14" leather wrap grip (2) AG Spalding ''S' wood - Duncan Model, 2 patent dates,
1919 and 1926 same as matching 'D' wood, white/black maltese cross ivorine insert; head very good, whipping
and red ferrule very good; black ferrule extends another 7" above red ferrule; black painted steel shaft very
nice with only paint wear; good 14" leather wrap grip with tight collar whipping (3) George Wright "1 2" wood,
two patent dates 1923 and 1926, beautiful colored target ivorine insert; whipping in place; steel shaft blackened
but remnant of "Bristol Steel Corp shaft" quite good (indicating this was not sheathed); good 14" leather wrap
grip. These came from the same owner and my guess is the D wood is the driver, the Wright wood a brassie
and the S wood for additional fairway purposes with its higher loft. D wood 43"; Wright wood 42 1/2"; S wood 41 1/2".
Great set for show and look sturdy enough to hit.
